July 2005 Tammuz 5765
It is with pleasure that I write in support of The Sephardi Association of Victoria.
I have been informed by the newly appointed Rabbi of the Association, Rabbi Yehuda Cohen, that the Association is about to commence a building programme that will result in extended facilities to its Synagogue and Centre. This will include extensions to the kitchen, hall, Talmud Torah a youth activity room and the rabbi's office. All of these improvements will, of course, enhance the many communal, educational and religious activities being conducted by the Rabbi and Association.
The Sephardi Association of Victoria is indispensable in its work to maintain the rich Sephardi tradition and culture in our multifaceted Melbourne Jewish community. It is vital that all of us, from all Jewish backgrounds, recognize the importance of their holy work and actively encourage this in particular with our financial backing.
I call upon the entire community to respond generously to the current appeal for funds to ensure that the current ambitious plans become a reality. May all those who indeed respond favourably receive all the blessings promised to those who support Synagogues and Houses of Study.
I use this opportunity to also extend blessings to the Rabbi, honorary officers, and all members of this unique Jewish congregation particularly those who volunteered and worked so hard in the establishment of the original Yehuda Sasoon Sephardi Synagogue, the first Sephardi Synagogue in Melbourne Australia.
May HaShem bless them and all those who support this important institution with health, long life, happiness and true spiritual growth and fulfilment.
With Torah blessings,
Rabbi Mordechai Gutnick.
