Eminent Rabbis zal

RABBI ISAAC (ZAKI ) ACHER Zal 1870-1963

Rabbi Zaki Acher

Rabbi Zaki Acher was born and deceased in Cairo.

Graduated in Law, he joined and worked together with the Chief Rabbi of Cairo His Eminence Nahoum Effendi who was at that time the adviser and personal friend of King Fouad, the king of Egypt.

Rabbi Zaki Acher was the father of three sons (Samuel, Mayer and Simon) who were solicitors and three daughters (Perla, Judith and Esther).

Rabbi Zaki Acher's son Mayer was the President of the Jewish Community of Cairo . He was also the solicitor of the Spanish Embassy. Due to his important and high position at the Spanish Embassy, Mayer Acher succeeded to assist a great number of Jews who had no Egyptian identity to leave to Israel by getting them Spanish passports. Unfortunately, Mayer who was among the last people to leave Egypt, died of a heart attack in Cairo while all the members of his family were waiting for him in France.
